 Welcome Dr. Elizabeth Postlewaite Abbott Fund

The Foundation is pleased to welcome the Dr. Elizabeth Postlewaite Abbott Fund for Mental and Emotional Well-being to the Foundation's family of funds.

Beth Abbott, Ph.D., is a retired psychologist who has worked in mental health most of her career. After graduating college, she and her husband, Alan, joined the Peace Corps to serve in community development in Cerro Chato, Uruguay.  She served as Executive Director of the Presa Community Service Center in San Antonio. She then worked as a psychologist for Student Services at the UTEP Counseling Center, serving also as interim director. Dr. Abbott went on to develop a private practice in marriage and family problems, mood disorders and women's issues.  She is a past President of the El Paso County Psychological Association and remains active in her field in retirement. She is a past Chair of the Center Against Family Violence and current member of the Brain Trust, the anchor network of the the Paso del Norte Health Foundation's Think.Change initiative. In her leisure time, Dr. Abbott is an oil painter, and contributes many of her works to local charities. She is the proud mother of two adult children and two terrific grandchildren, about whom she is willing to elaborate at all times. Learn more about establishing a Named Fund.

Paso del Norte Health Foundation 20th Anniversary

In 1995, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation was created from the sale of Providence Memorial Hospital to Tenet Healthcare Corporation.  Now one of the largest private foundations on the U.S.-Mexico border, the Health Foundation's goal is to improve health and promote wellness in west Texas, southern New Mexico, and Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua through health education and disease prevention. On September 30th, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation will celebrate its 20 years of service to the Paso del Norte region, commemorating the occasion with several activities and events on and before the anniversary date. There is still time to submit proposals for participation in the Foundation's 2015 Challenge Fund Program. The Challenge Fund is a matching grant program that offers an up to 1:2 match for contributions made during selected charitable events or appeals. Proposals are due by 12:00 pm on Friday, January 30th. Learn more.
